About

Portrait of David Blume

I joined nexoma as an apprentice in 2020 and now work there as lead software engineer of the Supplier Portal product, building Java / Spring Boot services, Angular frontends, and the OpenShift pipelines that ship them.

Based in Sundern, Germany. I mentor apprentices and care about architecture that holds up under real load — not just on a whiteboard.

I co-lead the architecture of Supplier Portal & Catalog Express: Java and Spring Boot services behind an Angular frontend, integrating industry data standards like BMEcat and ETIM and deployed to OpenShift with Docker and Argo CD. I moved the team to trunk-based development, rebuilt the Angular frontends for mobile, and brought Claude Code and GitHub Copilot into our workflow.

A local-first desktop workspace for reviewing GitLab merge requests — code intelligence, diagnostics, and review tracking without the code ever leaving the machine.

Approach

A desktop application built around a local-first principle: repositories are cloned to the reviewer’s machine, and code intelligence, diagnostics, and review state are computed locally. Code and forge credentials never leave the device.

MergeTrace at a glanceGitLab provides review metadata, and the repository is cloned to the reviewer’s machine. There, the desktop app’s review workspace and code intelligence work on data that never leaves the device.MergeTrace at a glanceGitLab provides review metadata, and the repository is cloned to the reviewer’s machine. Responsibilities

  • Own the product end to end — concept, design, engineering, and release.
  • Built the local code-intelligence experience: navigation and diagnostics without uploading a line of code.
  • Designed the anonymous-first licensing model: public repos need no account, Pro unlocks the rest.
  • Shipped the marketing site and the browser-based portal for sign-in, billing, and team management.
  • Set up cross-platform releases with installers for Windows and Linux.

Outcomes

  • A live product at mergetrace.com, distributed as installers for Windows and Linux.
  • Code intelligence that runs entirely on the reviewer’s machine — nothing to upload, nothing to configure.
  • Anonymous-first: public repos work without an account — no signup wall to try it.
